Antaris was delighted to be invited to present on its experience and expertise in implementing Integrated Management Systems at this year’s International Saudi Safety & Security (SSS) Conference and Exhibition. The international event, under the patronage of H.R.H. Prince Saud bin Nayef, was held in the city of Dammam in Saudi Arabia (KSA) bringing together leading companies from all around the world in the areas of safety, security, fire prevention and emergency / disaster response. The high profile event attracted thousands of participants from the public and private sectors, government ministries, regulatory bodies, oil / gas, chemical, food, ICT, medical, civil defence and wider business community across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Region.
Pierce Martin, Antaris’ Operations Director for the Region presented the challenges and benefits of implementing a strongly functioning Integrated Management System encompassing safety and security that fitted the needs of today’s KSA and wider GCC organisations and businesses and culture of managing risks and opportunities.
His presentation complemented the presentations of other speakers who stressed the importance today in KSA and the wider GCC of good business continuity planning and execution, the important concept of ‘preparedness’ and HSSE competence assurance within training programmes, upcoming developments in KSA’s regulatory and inspection regimes, and what to take into consideration when deciding between a performance-based or an outcome-based security model. The conference also heard about the excellent Gulf Cooperation Council’s Responsible Care Initiative been promoted by the Gulf Petrochemical and Chemicals Association, through their proactive development of codes of management practice. Also presented was an innovative behaviour-based ‘Triple-H’ programme being implemented by Petrofac that is preparing the next generation of Saudi engineers to take over key management roles across the full spectrum of business activities.
